History
The story of the Terrass Hotel goes back to 1909, when Edmond Hurand bought several brasseries, the Elysee Montmartre and a piece of land on Montmartre, where he built the hotel with a terrace on the roof and 120 rooms. He later decided to sell the hotel, but his son Maurice urged him to buy it back in 1923. Since then, the Terrass Hotel has remained in the family.

The hotel’s history is fascinating: requisitioned by the German Army in 1939, then by officers from the American Police, the hotel nurtures numerous stories. It is said, that the German soldiers had hidden treasures in the cellars during World War II. No one has found them to this day!

In 1954, Jean-Max Hurand, the grandson of Edmond, renovated the hotel completely. He added a bar and restaurant thus making it the meeting place for famous French artists and writers such as Colette, Michel Simon, Pierre Brasseur and the pianist Samson François.

In 1994, Christine, the daughter of Jean Max, and her husband Jean Luc Binet took over the management of the hotel and transformed it into the most luxurious hotel of northern Paris, now boasting 98 rooms and a newly designed restaurant, Le Diapason.
