- Louis Comfort Tiffany. Colours and Lights - exhibition
From Wednesday September 16 2009 to Sunday January 17 2010
A pioneering designer.
The Musée du Luxembourg will be hosting a monographic exhibition dedicated to famed American designer Louis Comfort Tiffany for the first time ever in Europe.
This reputed designed son of Charles Lewis Tiffany (founder of Tiffany & Co. in New York) is without a doubt one of the most talented designers of all time. His painter's eye for colour his taste for the exotic and his pioneering work in glasswork made him the leading figure of American design as early as 1900. He was one of the first to rival the great European glassworks of the late 19th century.
The sumptuous flamboyant character of his work with glass (blown-glass vases stained-glass lighting creations and other objects) put him at the heart of a number of art movements at the time from Arts & Crafts to Art Nouveau and Symbolism.
This exhibition will feature over 160 works that together give visitors a clear understanding of Louis C. Tiffany's significance in the history of design.
